Best Smith.ai Alternatives (2026)

Smith.ai answers your business calls with live North America-based receptionists, an AI receptionist, or a mix of the two, and bills by the call. If you want an AI-first agent on your existing number that covers the phone, chat, WhatsApp and SMS, hands a call to your own team when it needs a person, and costs a published monthly price, the strongest alternative is Evoriqa.

Choose Evoriqa

Best for agencies & resellers

An AI-first agent on your existing number. It covers the phone, chat, WhatsApp and SMS, hands calls to your own team, and has a published monthly price.

  • You want to keep your existing number and forward it to an AI agent, without paying for people to answer every call
  • You want the same agent answering the phone, website chat, WhatsApp and SMS from one knowledge base and one inbox
  • You want published plans with a free tier. Top-ups are priced at the same per-credit rate as the plan of the same size. Smith.ai's Basic plan charges $10.50 for every call past the first 90, October 2026
  • You resell an AI agent to clients and want an isolated white-label workspace with a spend cap per client. Smith.ai's reseller and wholesale pages do not describe one as of October 2026

Stay with Smith.ai

Smith.ai is a call answering and intake service with live North America-based receptionists, an AI receptionist and a hybrid of the two, billed per call.

  • You want a live person on every call, in English or Spanish, at any hour, including nights, weekends and holidays
  • You want live agents to place outbound calls or take payments on the call. You want intake for a law firm using Clio, MyCase, Lawmatics or Filevine
  • You would rather pay for a staffed service by the call than run an AI agent and a handoff to your own team
  • You are an agency that wants to resell live human answering and add a revenue stream through Smith.ai's reseller or wholesale program

Who Smith.ai is genuinely for

Smith.ai is a call answering and intake company, and the searches "Smith.ai virtual receptionist" and "Smith.ai pricing" lead to two different products. As of October 2026 Smith.ai's own pages describe a human service, Virtual Receptionists, staffed by more than 500 live agents who work from home offices across North America, available around the clock including nights, weekends and holidays. They answer with your custom greeting, screen and qualify callers, book appointments on your calendar while the caller is on the line, take payments, warm-transfer a call to your team, and place outbound calls to confirm appointments. The same page lists full fluency in English and Spanish and native integrations with legal tools such as Clio, MyCase, Lawmatics and Filevine.

Alongside it sits an AI Receptionist, described as answering 24/7 with conversational fluency in English and Spanish, qualifying and routing callers, scheduling, and connecting to Clio, Salesforce, HubSpot and scheduling tools. Smith.ai also describes a Hybrid service, one bill, where AI takes the routine calls and live agents take the ones that need a person. Much of its marketing speaks to law firms, but nothing on its pricing pages limits the service to them.

If a real person must pick up every call, for example a firm where each caller is a high-value prospect and the first thirty seconds are a sales conversation, Smith.ai's human service is genuinely better suited to you than any AI agent, ours included. Evoriqa is an AI agent. It does not put a live person on the line, and we would rather say so now than have you find out after signing up.

What people look for when they consider leaving

Most people do not leave because a Smith.ai receptionist handled a call badly. They look elsewhere because of how the service is priced and shaped.

The first thing they look for is a price that does not count calls. Smith.ai's call products are billed per call, and as of October 2026 a busy month is a bigger bill. The second is one agent across more than the phone. Smith.ai is phone first. It also sells a separate live-staffed website chat service, powered by AI, billed per chat from $140 a month for 20 chats (October 2026), and text and email follow-up are per-call add-ons; we found no WhatsApp, SMS or social-messaging inbox described on the pages we read. The third is a person at the end of a handoff who works for you. Smith.ai's escalation goes to its own agents, who are good at that job, whereas many owners want the agent to hand a call to their own team with the conversation attached. The fourth is selling the service to clients under your own brand. Smith.ai does have a route for agencies: as of October 2026 its partner programs include an Agency Reseller program, a Wholesale program and a Referral Affiliate program. Its reseller page describes a program whose page says "it's free and easy to incorporate our services into your offering", with a dedicated affiliate manager, co-marketing and training, and client perks such as $100 off the first month (new customers only). Its wholesale page describes a custom package with direct, indirect or pass-through billing and a partner portal, for integrating its agents and AI "into your marketplace, platform, or brand". Neither page we read describes an isolated workspace per client or a spend cap per client. The fifth is showing a customer where an answer came from: Smith.ai's AI Receptionist lists self-healing FAQs, but we found nothing published about citing a source with each answer.

The alternatives worth considering, including staying with Smith.ai

Stay with Smith.ai's human service. If you want live humans on every call, the same people learning your business over time, outbound confirmation calls and payments taken on the line, you are in the audience it was built for, and an AI agent is the wrong answer. The same goes if you are a law firm that wants intake tools it already integrates with.

Smith.ai's AI Receptionist or Hybrid plan, if you like the company but want a lower per-call rate and are happy to stay on a phone-first product, with live agents available for the calls that need them.

Another answering service, if you want to compare live-agent providers on call counts, minutes and hours before settling.

Evoriqa, if you want an AI-first agent on your existing number that also answers your website chat, WhatsApp and SMS, hands a call to your own team with the full conversation attached, and costs a published monthly price with a free plan to start on.

Smith.ai pricing (October 2026)

Smith.ai publishes the figures below on its Virtual Receptionists pricing page, its AI Receptionist pricing page and its AI Receptionist page, as read in October 2026. Its live chat pricing page lists chat separately: À la carte at $10 per chat, then Starter at $140 a month for 20 chats ($7 over), Basic at $300 for 50 ($6 over) and Pro at $600 for 120 ($5 over).

The human plans are month-to-month with a 30-day money-back guarantee on the initial plan (overage excluded), no setup fee, and a 10% discount for subscribing for 12 months. A custom Enterprise human plan also exists, without a published price. Billing is per call, not per minute, and spam is not charged for if the lines you forward pass Caller ID. Add-ons are priced per call on top: for example booking appointments is $1.50, a dedicated Spanish line $1.00 and accepting payments $1.00, and each additional CRM integration is $0.50 a call. On the AI side, Smith.ai's FAQ says every call answered by the AI Receptionist counts toward the quota by default, you can remove up to 10% of calls from the bill each billing cycle for selected spam, calls from known spammers are filtered out before the AI answers and do not count, and cancelling takes 30 days' notice. Live-agent escalation on the AI plans is a per-call add-on, and an AI-initiated escalation carries no fee. The Hybrid page lists no per-call rate we could confirm.

Evoriqa's plans are Free ($0, 10 voice minutes), Starter ($29/mo, about 120 voice minutes), Pro ($99/mo, about 520) and Business ($399/mo, about 2,100), with voice on every plan drawing on the same monthly credit pool as chat. The two meters do not line up: Smith.ai counts answered calls, Evoriqa counts credits, so there is no honest one-to-one conversion. By our arithmetic from Smith.ai's October 2026 published rates, 100 answered calls in a month is $810 plus 10 extra at $10.50, about $915, on the human Basic plan, and 75 extra calls at $3.00, about $225, on the AI Free plan. On Evoriqa, when a month's allowance runs out nothing breaks or is deleted: the agent keeps capturing conversations and hands them to your team, and one-time top-up packs (from $29 for 300,000 credits) are priced at the same per-credit rate as the plan of the same size, so there is no overage penalty. Evoriqa sells no phone numbers, so the Telnyx or Infobip line you connect is a separate cost on top of the plan. Prices change on both sides, so check each vendor's own page before you decide.

Where Smith.ai is the better choice

Smith.ai is the stronger pick in a few specific cases. Its Virtual Receptionists are live people, and its pricing page lists plans from $300 a month for 30 calls in October 2026. If you want a person on every call, that is the product. Its live agents also place outbound calls and take payments on the call, which Evoriqa does not do. Its partner page lists Agency Reseller, Wholesale and Referral Affiliate programs. If you want to resell live human answering, Smith.ai has a program for it.

Where Evoriqa fits

Evoriqa starts from one agent rather than a call-answering service. Point it at your website, docs and FAQs and the same knowledge answers the phone and your website chat, WhatsApp, Instagram, Messenger, SMS and Slack. Email is routed to your team first. Every conversation lands in one inbox across eight channels. A call that needs a person transfers to your own team with the full conversation attached. The Free plan lets you try the phone agent without a card.

You set up call forwarding at your carrier on your existing business line, pointing it to a Telnyx or Infobip number connected to Evoriqa, and add the number your team's calls should transfer to. Callers keep dialing the number they already know, and the agent answers behind it. That is the practical difference from a service where people answer: the receptionist is an agent that works the same way at three in the morning as at three in the afternoon, and a customer who texts or opens your chat gets the same answers as one who calls.

Pricing is four published tiers, Free, $29, $99 and $399 per month, with phone minutes and chat drawing on one monthly credit allowance that resets every month. You can set a spend cap per workspace, and the Free plan has a fixed quota with no overage. If you are an agency, every client gets an isolated white-label workspace with its own spend cap, which the Smith.ai reseller and wholesale pages we read in October 2026 do not describe: they cover a partner program, a partner portal and custom wholesale billing, but not an isolated workspace or a spend cap per client.

Where Evoriqa doesn't fit

Evoriqa is the wrong tool for much of Smith.ai's audience, and it is better to know that now.

If you want a live human on every call, Smith.ai's Virtual Receptionists are built for that and Evoriqa is not. Our agent is AI, and the person at the end of a handoff is someone on your own team, not a staffed pool we provide. We have no live agents to take overflow, payments or intake on your behalf.

If you are an agency that wants to resell live human answering and add a revenue stream, Smith.ai's reseller and wholesale programs are built for that, and Evoriqa's white-label workspaces resell an AI agent, not people.

If you want outbound calls, such as appointment confirmations, Smith.ai's page says its live agents place them. Evoriqa does no outbound calling.

A phone line on Evoriqa answers in one configured language. Chat, WhatsApp and SMS detect the customer's language automatically across 32 languages, but the phone does not switch mid-call. Smith.ai lists English and Spanish for both its human and its AI receptionist, so if callers need both on one line, check how each handles that.

If your procurement checklist demands SOC 2, HIPAA or SSO/SAML, Evoriqa holds none of the three today. We found no SOC 2 or HIPAA statement on the Smith.ai pages we read in October 2026, which describe encrypted storage of recordings and transcripts, so ask Smith.ai directly. Evoriqa's controls run to GDPR export and erasure, enforced 2FA, encrypted secrets, audit logs and workspace isolation on every plan, and the API is available on request.

Evoriqa vs Smith.ai, side by side

Need a live person on every call, outbound confirmation calls, or intake handled by trained agents? Smith.ai's human Virtual Receptionists are built for that. Want an AI-first agent on your existing number? It answers the phone, your website, WhatsApp and SMS from the same knowledge. It hands a call to your own team when it needs a person, at a published monthly price with a free tier. Evoriqa.

Evoriqa

Evoriqa is an AI-first receptionist rather than a staffed service. You forward your existing business number to a Telnyx or Infobip line connected to Evoriqa, so callers keep dialing the number they know. The same agent answers the phone and your website, WhatsApp, Instagram, Messenger, SMS and Slack from one knowledge base. Email is routed to your team first. All 8 channels land in one inbox, and a call that needs a person transfers to your own team with the full conversation attached. Pricing is four published tiers, Free, $29, $99 and $399 per month, with voice on every plan from the same monthly credit allowance as chat. When it runs out nothing breaks. The agent keeps capturing conversations for your team. Top-up packs are priced at the same per-credit rate as the plan of the same size, so there is no overage penalty. Agencies also get an isolated white-label workspace per client with a spend cap each.

Questions, answered

How much does Smith.ai cost?

As of October 2026, Smith.ai lists two kinds of plan. Its human Virtual Receptionists cost $300 a month for 30 calls (Starter), $810 for 90 (Basic) and $2,100 for 300 (Pro). Extra calls cost $11.50, $10.50 and $8.50. Plans are month-to-month, with a 30-day money-back guarantee on the initial plan, overage excluded. A custom Enterprise human plan also exists. Its AI Receptionist has a Free plan with 25 calls and then $3.00 per call. Pro is from $150 a month ($2.50 per extra call at the 75-call tier). Enterprise is from $500 a month ($2.17 per extra call at the 300-call tier). The per-call rate falls as the included calls rise. Its separate live web chat service is billed per chat, from $140 a month for 20 chats. Billing is per call, not per minute. On those rates, 100 calls a month cost about $915 on the human Basic plan and $225 on the AI Free plan (our arithmetic). Evoriqa counts credits rather than calls, so the two do not convert one-to-one. Voice is on every plan. Free carries 10 voice minutes, Starter ($29/mo) about 120, Pro ($99/mo) about 520 and Business ($399/mo) about 2,100. If a month's allowance runs out, nothing breaks. The agent keeps capturing conversations for your team. Top-up packs (from $29 for 300,000 credits) are priced at the same per-credit rate as the plan of the same size. The Telnyx or Infobip line you forward to is a separate cost. Check Smith.ai's pricing pages, since these figures move.

Is Smith.ai's virtual receptionist a person or an AI?

Both, as of October 2026. Smith.ai's Virtual Receptionists are live agents. Its own page says more than 500 work from home offices across North America, around the clock, in English and Spanish. It also sells an AI Receptionist, and a Hybrid service where AI takes routine calls and live agents take the ones that need a person. Evoriqa is an AI agent only. A call that needs a person transfers to your own team with the full conversation attached. If you want trained people answering for you, Smith.ai's human service is the better fit.

Can I keep my number if I switch from Smith.ai to Evoriqa?

Yes. Evoriqa does not need to take over your number. You set up carrier call forwarding on your existing business line to a Telnyx or Infobip number connected to Evoriqa. Callers keep dialing the number they know. The phone line answers in one configured language, while chat, WhatsApp and SMS detect the customer's language automatically across 32 languages. Evoriqa does no outbound calling, which Smith.ai's pages say its live agents do as of October 2026.

Weighing up Smith.ai?

Point Evoriqa at your website and help docs, and your agent starts answering questions, capturing leads and booking appointments across every channel. Free to start, no credit card.
