How to Ask for Google Reviews (With Templates)

Asking for a Google review is simple: send the customer one link that opens your review box, and ask them for an honest rating. The rules are what trip people up. This guide shows how to get your link, when to ask, and templates that follow Google's policy. You can make your link or a printable QR code for free.

The short answer

Get your review link from your Business Profile, send it soon after the visit, and ask every customer the same way. Offer nothing in return. Do not pressure anyone.

Everything about Google below was read on Google's own help pages in October 2026. Menus change, so follow your screen if a label differs.

How to get your Google review link

Google's help page for sharing a review link gives these steps:

  1. 1Go to your Business Profile.
  2. 2Select Read Reviews, then Get more reviews.
  3. 3Select Copy to copy the link, or save the QR code.

Google says review QR codes can only be made in a computer browser, not on a mobile device. Its page also lists ways to share the link: email, WhatsApp message or Facebook post. It suggests receipts, thank-you emails and the end of a chat.

If you do not manage the profile, you can use a Place ID instead. Our Google review link generator builds the link from a Place ID and lets you test it before you send anything.

What Google's policy allows

Google's contribution policy sets the rules for businesses. Three of them shape every request you write.

  • No incentives. Google does not allow merchants to offer incentives such as payment, discounts, or free goods or services for a review.
  • No selective asking. Merchants may not discourage or prohibit negative reviews, or selectively solicit positive reviews.
  • No pressure. Merchants should not require or pressure users to leave ratings or reviews while on the premises.

In practice, that means five things:

  • Do not offer a coupon, a prize or a free coffee in exchange for a review.
  • Do not ask only the customers who seemed happy.
  • Do not ask for a five-star rating. Ask for honest feedback.
  • Do not stand over a customer while they write it.
  • Do not ask anyone to change or delete a review.

Asking only happy customers is the most common mistake. If a business filters out unhappy people before sending the link, that is selective asking. Send the same message to everyone.

When to ask

Ask soon after the service, while the visit is fresh. A few natural moments work well:

  • Right after a booking is completed or a job is finished.
  • In the receipt or thank-you email, as Google suggests.
  • At the end of a chat, once the question is answered.
  • On a counter card with a QR code, for walk-in customers.

Ask once. A single polite follow-up a few days later is plenty. More than that starts to feel like pressure. A slow stream of honest reviews beats a fast one that looks staged.

Google review request templates

Each template asks for honest feedback and offers nothing back. Swap the words in square brackets for your own.

SMS template

> Hi [name], thanks for visiting [business] today. If you have a minute, we would value your honest feedback on Google: [link]

Keep it short. A text that fits in one message reads like a human wrote it.

Email template

Subject: How was your visit to [business]?

> Hi [name], > > Thank you for choosing [business]. [One line on what you do with reviews.] > > If you have a minute, you can share your honest experience on Google here: [link] > > Thanks again, > [your name]

WhatsApp template

> Hi [name], this is [your name] from [business]. Thanks for coming in. If you would like to share your honest feedback on Google, here is the link: [link]

In-person or receipt line

> Tell us how we did. Scan the code or visit [short link] to leave an honest Google review.

A polite follow-up

> Hi [name], a quick reminder in case you missed our note. Your honest feedback on Google helps us improve: [link]

Your Google review link generator page has SMS, email and WhatsApp versions ready to copy. They follow the same rules.

Use a QR code in your shop

A QR code turns a walk-in customer into a one-tap review. Print it on the receipt, the counter or the menu. Our Google review QR code generator makes a code from your link, as a PNG or SVG, and a counter card to print.

Scan it with your own phone before you print a hundred copies. A broken code is worse than none.

What to do when a review arrives

Reply to reviews, good and bad. A short, specific reply shows future customers that someone is listening. Do not argue, and do not ask the reviewer to edit their review.

Our review response generator gives three ready replies for any star rating, in a warm or formal tone. Edit them before you post, so they sound like you.

Where Evoriqa helps

Evoriqa does not send review requests or reminders to your customers, so you send the link yourself. What it does is answer customers well, which gives them a reason to speak well of you.

Evoriqa is an AI agent for customer support. Customers reach one agent across eight channels (on Instagram, DMs only), and every conversation lands in one inbox. The agent answers from your own content, and hands over to a person when one is needed.

CSAT is collected in the same inbox where conversations are resolved, so you see how customers rated a conversation next to the conversation itself. See CSAT explained or work out your score with the NPS calculator.

Frequently asked questions

Can I offer a discount for a Google review?

No. Google's policy says merchants may not offer payment, discounts, or free goods or services for reviews.

Can I ask only my happy customers?

No. Google's policy prohibits selectively soliciting positive reviews. Send the same request to every customer.

Does the customer need a Google account?

Google's help page does not say. Customers may need to sign in, so test your link while signed in and while signed out.

Can I make a review QR code on my phone?

Google says QR codes can only be made in a computer browser. Use the steps above on a computer.

How many times should I ask?

Ask once, then follow up at most once. Repeated messages feel like pressure.
